I’m in love with this crocheted scarf pattern. I made a few of them before Christmas. When we drove to Florida in January I took advantage of the long car ride to make a few more. I can make one up in about 1.5 hours and they take a full skein of wool.
My daughter had requested one in her favourite color, purple , and she was pleased to get hers when we arrived home…still in time to keep her warm in the cold weather.
I had bought a bevy of fat quarters over the years in floral prints….in hindsight, I don’t know why, or can’t remember. Oh yes I remember now…..I bought them when it was fashionable to make those watercolour quilts…remember those? There must be at least 20-25 different prints here.
Needless to say as you can see, I never got around to doing that either. I need to stop and smell the roses and figure out what to do with all these floral fat quarters.
I think I have an bloomin idea. Stay tuned.
I made this little mini quilt to showcase these adorable little sayings from Block Party Studios. They are sold in panels and you can get your choice of color pre-printed.
I had a few red, white and black scraps leftover and they worked really well with the tiny blocks as they are in the same colorings.

While I was in Florida I picked up a few of these little “Quilter Sayings” panels and have been working at incorporating them into a mini quilt. I had paper pieced the little blocks and added the saying blocks to make a cute little Quilters Saying Quilt. It will be offered as a class at Kindred Spirits Quilt Co. as a beginner paper piecing class.

TAX TIME
It’s dreaded tax season again…why can’t tax season be like other seasons? Snow…falling leaves, daffodils blooming, summer heat….no, it’s in a class all it’s own!
It’s worse because I own my own business, and it’s worse because I don’t keep myself organized throughout the year. I have good intentions once I complete the required paperwork. Every year I keep saying “OMG Next year I’m not doing this again, I’m going to keep on it weekly and monthly”….but I never do and then it’s the season again and I’m swamped with a million bits and pieces of paper and receipts trying to make heads and tails of things I bought and did a year ago. I have all the tools, I have the excel spreadsheets right on my computer…I could just input things daily, weekly or monthly and be up to date with everything….but I don’t and now I pay for it!..in more ways than one. This pile looks neat, cause it’s the finished product…you should have seen the dining room table yesterday.
Someone asked what was for dinner ……that was their first mistake.
Soooooo I have spent the last two days, inputting into excel, sorting, purging, pitching, preparing, recanting, remembering, listing, formulating, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, saving, filing, calculating and of course bitching.
And I just have the shell work done…now it goes to the accountant before it even graces the eyes of the dreaded taxman!.
OMG, I’m not doing this again next year, I’m going to keep up to date, daily, weekly, or monthly….
About 3.5 inch square, that’s how small. These little goodies are for a mini wall hanging I’m working on. They are paper pieced so they do come out really precise, but they are really finicky. I trace the patterns onto tracing paper so that it’s super easy to rip off the paper after the block is complete.
I had a bag of leftover Thimbleberry scraps which worked out awesome to use to piece.
Look how small the pattern is…that’s a nickel sitting on the pattern.
My Wading Geese by Bigfork Bay Quilting Co. is all framed and Michelle is taking it to Kindred Spirits Quilt Co. so that quilters can see the finished project and hopefully sign up for the class.
I stretched the quilted quilt onto a stretcher bar frame, stapling it at the back, then took it to the framers to have it sunk into a black floating frame.
It’s a nice change from your typical hanging quilt….well it’s still hung, only without borders or a rod or hanger.

It was a challenge to paper piece but always good to stretch oneself. The only change I would make is that his feet do not show up enough, I should have used a more contrasting fabric…but I ain’t picking it out!
I’m looking forward to the next block in the series…all are to be geared to nature.
This is block 2 of Val Laird’s Apples of Gold free BOM. It calls for hand embroidery, but that’s a dirty word in our house so I opted to embroider it by machine. In hindsight, I probably could have hand done it much quicker, by the time I was finished editing, setting up and taking the 15 minutes it took to machine quilt it. I even lazed out doing the little leaf corner border.
The block is made up of a few squares, strips blocks and flying geese added together around the embroidered centre. I like the saying…it’s so true……An encouraging word cheers a person up.

I’ve been trying to catch up on my BOM’s…my own fault for taking on so many, but that is the life of a quilter I suppose. This is block 2 from the Sulky International BOM called I love Sewing. It called for embroidering the tape measure but everyone knows how I loath embroidery and would do anything in my power to get out of it so I opted for stitching a cotton ribbon look alike that I had in my ribbon stash.
Turned out OK and saved me the agony of needle and thread.

I had no plans to start another BOM, but WHO could resist these little guys. I’m loving it, so much fun to see them come to life from pattern to completed block! This little guy’s name is Dorkins.
