Flapper Diaper Bag

In my quest to complete some unfinished projects in 2015, I came across this Benartex Handbag Panel that I had picked up a while ago. And when I say I while ago, I mean it.

It was very cool looking and that’s why it probably caught my eye, but when I started to sew it up I got to thinking if I would really use it.  The more I thought about it and looked at the design, the more it got me to thinking…this would make a really cool couture diaper bag….and I just happen to have a niece who is expecting. Wonders never cease.

As I was finishing the bag up I retrofitted it to the needs of a young mom on the go. It has a place for diaper wipes and cream along with fabric elasticized bands to hold a baby bottle upright.

I made a matching waterproof change pad and a special holder for the soother so it would never get lost…..been there done that!

Everything stores nice and compact and it looks fashionable as well as practical.

Bigs and Littles

I started with the smaller one, then just enlarged the measurements to make a larger bag that would hold more stuff!

I really like the way the strips run one way and then the other. Maybe just my most favourite bag ever.

An Improvement

For months I’ve been promising myself that I would make something for Moi…I have been in desperate need for a little makeup pouch for my purse. Makeup pouches

I had fun making these cuties for the bridesmaids in my daughter’s wedding. I have had this Loralie Bride Fabric stashed around for quite some time and had just enough to make 5 little ones for the bridesmaids and the bride and one larger one for the bride. The fabric is just adorable and they were perfect for the wedding day to hold all the essentials. I found the diy instructions here…

Wallet Group

It’s amazing how many variations you can get at one class…
These are the ladies from my first wallet class….Barb, Doris, Nellie, Marnie, and of course our fearless leader Michelle you Can teach an old dog new tricks. Michelle only really took 1/2 the class…came late, went for lunch with her daughter and had me demo on her wallet, that’s why hers is almost finished…
Great job ladies…they look awesome.

What’s in your wallet again

I told you I love making these wallets from Cool Cat Creations. The patterns call for strips but I changed it up by using  Pellon On Point fusible grid. Super easy to get a great patchwork look without all the work. This style has to be my favourite so far, but I'm pretty confident I’m not finished with fooling around with these…..

What’s in your wallet

I absolutely love making these wallets and I absolutely love teaching this class at Kindred Spirits Quilt Co. They make up in about a half a day class(once you’ve mastered one) and are great little gifts for friends and family. The pattern is from Cool Cat Creations and the pattern is called Little Bits.

Grommets Galore

This is a wonderful bag to make and even more wonderful to teach when you have students like I have.  My students Lynda, Barb,Elaine, Janet and Pat did a wonderful job finishing their bags and everyone of them was different.  Not the students…the bags.

The pattern was from Indigo Junction and was called Grids and Grommets. Nice job ladies!

Thimbelina Bag Ladies

June and Pat were wonderful students stripping their way through the Thimbelina Bag Class. The strips are lined with batting strips and you tuck and sew all the little goodness in. Then you sew all the strips together yet again. It looks amazing made from batiks which is evident from June and Pat’s choices.

Pat’s all finished and is starting on a second one. Awesome Pat…love it!

Off the Grid

I love this bag….it’s from the pattern called Grids and Grommets. I’ll be teaching the class at Kindred Spirits Quilt Co. this spring and I had such fun making it…super easy and it looks amazing. Made from 2.5 inch strips, quilted, lined with pockets and the grommets were super easy to install….wish I could use it now, but I really have to wait till I’ve taught the class.  The fabric is from the line called Juggling Summer by Brigitte Heitland for Zen Chic for Moda.

La Borsa Bag Ladies

These are the ladies from my La Borsa Bag class at Kindred Spirits Quilt Co. This is one of my favourite bags to make. No hand sewing and goes together like a dream. I love that it’s a huge pouch bag that l holds tones of stuff and better still it’s made out of charm squares. I did do a variation on mine…I had a sampler pack of 42 2X2 squares of the fabric line Roman Holiday and did not know what to do with them. They worked out great by sewing 4 together to make a 3.5 inch square and adding coordinating fabric in the same size to complete the bag. Love it and obviously so did all the ladies in the class. Look at these wonderful varieties ….from cupcakes to Stonehenge to traditional country prints….got to love em all.

Ready for the Islands

Doesn't this little bag remind you of the islands. I love batiks and how they remind me of the Caribbean. I had a few 1.5 inch strips leftover from a previous project and saw this bag pattern on Moda Bake Shop. I thought it was perfect for the fabric and I could envision myself carrying  it on our vacation cruise to the Bahamas. I managed to finish it before we left and it was perfect for the trip. We visited Key West, Nassau and Freeport on Carnival out of Charleston and had so much fun. The pattern is posted on Moda Bake Shop and is called the Gadget purse by Nichole Willmore. It was super easy to make and I love the little bow that ties in the front.

Sweet.......Treat Bag

This little bag was offered a while back from Moda. Isn't it adorable. It's made from 10 Honey Bun strips and sews up in a jiffy. My sister-law received this one for her recent birthday. You could use it to store your quilting tools, you can use it as a travel bag or even a gift bag. I added a little handle to it, tied on with ribbon so you can use it as a small purse. Gotta make some more of these with the holiday season just around the corner. It's a great gift when you just need a little something for that special someone.
