And Then There Were None

SAM_6191SAM_6196

I do love baking, trying new recipes…..the only downfall is that they go right to my _ _ _and I don’t mean hip. I bought this cute little book recently called Love Donuts…..it should be called Love Handles, cause that’s what you’ll get when you make and eat them. Trust me I’m living proof.

These were simple baked rings, dusted with powdered sugar…yum yum

Oh…I need to hide this book! or give it to some other Fat hip  _ _ _.

Strippin Again

SAM_6210

I had a fairly large stash of sample pieces from the line Impressions in Spice by Ty Pennington.  I’ve been intrigued by those very modern type quilt lately and thought this would be a good choice for the use of the fabric pieces. I didn’t have really any yardage so to speak of in any of the pieces. Just odds and sods most about the size of fat quarters or less.  What I could get out of the pieces were lots of strips…so I’m strippin again. I have a really nice Taupe fabric which co-ordinates well which I will use for the focus strips and an outer border, if I ever get there! No pattern, just the concept in my head.

Spring is in the Air

SAM_6165

Remember all those floral fat quarters I had in my stash. I am making headway on using them up into this log cabin version from Quilt in a Day. I have taught this log cabin class a few times and I’m on my 3rd version of this fabulous technique. I need to stop because at this rate I’ll soon have a small village of log cabins. I had seen a block of this floral log cabin on Pinterest which prompted me to find a use for all my floral prints. Her version was white with floral and I have chosen yellow so that it will be a nice addition to our bedroom for the summer months.

Labyrinth Round Four

SAM_6155

This quilt goes on and on…………I’m on round 4 now and really need to get a move on. I do absolutely love this round of  fabric which is called Deja vu. This is a sample I’m working on  for a class I’ll teach at Kindred Spirits Quilt Co.

“I don’t have thing to wear” block 2

SAM_6152
I worked on block 2 of I don’t have a thing to wear  BOM. I’m using vintage fabric from Lucien. Each outfit is a retro from the 50’s.The little blocks are small, just 6.5 square before the sashing are added.

Mystery Started

SAM_6158
Friday night was the first class of a new Mystery Class I’m teaching at Kindred Spirits Quilt Co.
This is always one of the most fun classes I teach. Students are great, engaged and the class never disappoints. Plus everyone works through the mystery month by month and at the end they have a phenomenal quilt completed.
I’ve chosen  Lynette Anderson’s line Hollyhock Cottage as my fabrics and the pattern for mystery this year is Undercover in Long Beach II by Debbie Caffery.

Folded Circle Centerpieces

SAM_6297

I taught the Folded Circle Centerpiece class at Kindred Spirits Quilt Co. on Saturday and the students did amazing!

The pattern is from DJ Richards Design and is one of my favourites. You need to know that this class is not for the faint at heart…prep time is many hours of cutting and pressing and bagging before you even get to class. A total of 212 little folded pieces of sheer delight.

This purple beauty belongs to Sue….for her granddaughter…she has her work cut out for her as she is making one for each of hers.

Wow

Now I did want to show you the difference between normal and anal….Dear Michelle boss lady attended the class as well and to the left is Michelle’s sorted folded pieces and to the right are mine…Anal verses Normal right?……..she says it’s because she didn’t want to waste baggies….yeh….you need help and I don’t mean with the dishes.

Anal……………………………………………………….Normal

SAM_6298SAM_6299

To the left is Pat’s(She was doing double duty and made two the same with her daughter Meaghan) and Lenore’s to the right. Awesome. They are all off to a good start and I can’t wait to see the finished masterpieces.

I’m just in the midst of adding another round of my Christmas themed centerpiece.

Round Three Labyrinth

SAM_6119

We’re getting there…I’m at round three of the new Labyrinth quilt that I’m doing for Kindred Spirits Quilt Co.

Usually by now, I would have had this all completed, but I’ve had a million things get in the way.

It looks difficult, looks like I’ve been using Y seams at every turn, but this quilt is made of all 1/2 square triangles so no Y seams…ever!

Y-easter Bread

SAM_6284

I do love to bake and have been experimenting with yeast….not always with successful results I might add. Now this Easter Braid with Lime curd did turn out thanks to http://smittenkitchen.com.blog/2010/05/braided-lemon-bread/

Easter Stitching

SAM_6166

These are always fun little projects to do.  Plus you can never have enough tea towels, especially with bunnies and chicks embroidered on them. I get my embroidery designs from Embroidery Library. They have an amazing selection of designs…..you can get overdosed just looking through trying to decide which designs you like best….I love them all. Even though these are relatively small designs they do take quite a while to complete on my machine. Believe it or not they take on average about 40 minutes to stitch out just one. That can tie up your quilting for a while, especially if you are doing several.   To multitask I set up both my machines at the same time. I  have an embroidery/sewing machine plus another small sewing machine that is lighter which I can take to classes with me or travel with.  While I’m embroidering I quilt on my smaller machine. As they are side by side, I can keep an eye on the embroidery as it works through, changing thread as necessary and still get some of my piecing done at the same time. I wrapped these up and gave them as little gifts this Easter.

Lots to be Thankful for.....Everyday

Everyday I'm thankful....for my dear hubby, my four great children, even though 2 should have moved out by now ,our 2 amazing grandsons, my 87 year old mom who is still enjoying life, my siblings and family, my wonderful friends who are still friends even though I don't call or e-mail as often as I should, my quilting opportunities and a whole lot more too......BUT nothing made me more thankful than to have my youngest grandson Owen get through his surgery with flying colors. Even though it was just tonsils, adenoids and tubes, it was still a great worry as he is only 18 months old and just a little peanut.

Yep......Lots to be thankful for

Celebrating Easter?

Or Pirate's Week ....._)*_)*)(&(*^.....

My kids all think that they're comedians! I took my creepy Easter chick cookies to my daughter's for Easter dinner and everyone got on the band wagon that they looked more like parrots than baby chicks. Then daughter #2 dawns the pirate hat, the bellowing laughter starts, along with the baby chick slurs, and the "arrrrr, arrrrrr's" ..... next thing you know we're celebrating pirates week! Oh I give up....Polly want a cracker?

I’m one scary chick

SAM_6301SAM_6302SAM_6303

I love baking for special occasions, however best intentions do not always work out as planned. These little chicks are for Easter, however it looks more like we’re celebrating Pirate Week cause these are really scary looking chicks. They look more like creepy eyed parrots.  That was direct quote from my daughter…no creepy parrot cookies for her!

SAM_6306SAM_6307SAM_6309

It did get better with these little bunnies, they turned out better and really do resemble bunnies. The grandsons will like these ones.

SAM_6311SAM_6312

You can see I was on a rabbit kick and got carried away with these small white furry things. Hey…it’s all about the kids!

SAM_6313SAM_6315

Then I went on to try my hand at Linzer cookies…with Easter themed cut-outs…these are more my style and taste…almond dough with delicious strawberry jam oozing from every crevice…yum.

SAM_6317SAM_6318

Plus they look great on display.

And for the finale……….the piece de resistance.

SAM_6319SAM_6321

Carrot cake with cream cheese icing….and Peeps!   num num…now I drag my exhausted _ _ _ to bed.   Maybe I did too much?

Easter Peeps and Treats

SAM_6263SAM_6271

Like I don’t have enough to do…….

But who can resist Easter peeps and treats. I’ve seen these on  Pintrest and wanted to try them myself. My Daughter Melissa and her family are hosting Easter this year and these little goodies are to take along.

No wonder I don’t get any quilting done!
