Movin On

Gosh life can get hectic.....with kids, hubbies, parents, grandkids, cooking, cleaning, and quilting....
blogging adds another dimension of things that take moments of our precious time. I have enjoyed blogging, your comments and all the positive feedback you have shared with me. However I struggle to balance time constraints vs all the things I want to do and want to get done. So something's gotta give and that happens to be the blog.
It's not that I won't be posting my projects, your projects and other goodies...I'm just trying to simplify things and will be posting to pinterest as an alternative. It will be virtually the same, without the commentary......never thought I would be at a loss for words, however this avenue works better for me, lifestyle wise.

The blog will continue to stay open on the site so you can always go back and look at projects that were posted there.
Keep on quilting!

Segue to Hiatus

IMG_1704
So this is my segue to let you know I will be on hiatus until the first week of March. Dear Hubby and I are away for three weeks, heading out to Florida.
I had to make myself a couple of sunglass cases as I couldn’t find a large enough case to fit my glasses.  I had a little piece of sunglass fabric which was perfect for the project. I used Bosal’s Soft and Stable as batting to make the cases extra sturdy.
They turned out just perfect. Now I’m ready to fly!

See you in a few weeks!

Geek Squad

IMG_1680
This is the last of six bibs I made for my niece Candice. It started with Einstein fabric….I paired the two fabric together, then added a little tag I had in my stash. The little tag reads Geek in Training which seemed perfect.

Chew-chew

Choo-Choo
IMG_1676
My brother’s new grandchild needs to be properly outfitted in train- wear. Dear brother is a huge train and railroad fanatic and this little bib will be a perfect fit.  I’ve been sewing up all kinds of goodies for the mom to be.

Diaper Cutch

IMG_1668
This is a functional little diaper clutch for the busy mom….small enough to tuck in your purse and holds all the essentials you need to change the little one, without pulling out all the necessities.
IMG_1669IMG_1670
It holds your wipes and a few diapers. Just what you need, without taking the whole diaper bag…..just enough for a quick trip.

Sweet-Heart

IMG_1640

This little door wreath is for my Dear Eldest Daughter….she has chickens, and when I saw the chicken wire wreath frame, I knew I needed to make something for her with it.

With Valentine’s day fast approaching I opted to make it to celebrate the occasion.

IMG_1641IMG_1642

Ages ago, I had found these cute little pink heart Christmas bulbs after Christmas on sale, bought them and tucked them away. They came in handy to decorate the wreath for Valentine’s Day.

Girl or boy?

IMG_1683

This is the boy version for John…Emily’s brother.

I love the little moustache fabric….so cute. I paired it up with a soft gray, then embroidered the name on.

IMG_1683

I can hardly wait to see if Candice’s baby is a John or an Emily!

Boy or girl?

IMG_1678
My niece Candice is expecting her first child in April. They have decided to wait and see what the sex of the baby is, but they have picked out names….Emily for a girl or John for a boy. I thought it would be best to be prepared with a bib for either name.
I embroidered Emily onto the top half of the bib and added a little heart button to emphasize the I.
IMG_1679
We’ll just have to wait and see what bib will get worn.

A is for Apple

IMG_1674

You can never have enough bibs….and my niece Candice will be well stocked for her new arrival. I’ve been on a roll making all kinds of goodies for her upcoming shower. It’s been so much fun to create. I started with cute apple fabric, embroidered a little saying on the gingham and another precious bib was created.

A is for ADORABLE.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

IMG_1672

My darling niece Candice is expecting her first baby in April and I have been making up a few items for her shower in March. I love making these little bibs, so adorable. This one is so sweet with ice cream cones, along with the ice cream truck bordering the bottom.

Taggy Owl

IMG_1707

Now I’m told that these are all the rage for new moms…I never had these sort of things for any of my kids.  The things they think up now…amazing. Seems little ones like to run their fingers on the ribbons.

I made this little guy for my niece Candice who is expecting her first baby in April. I love the way he turned out.

Little Princess Slippers

IMG_1664

Pretty in pink….I love this set of footies. I warned you I had gone a little crazy with baby stuff for my niece. I started making these little booties and couldn’t stop myself.

IMG_1663

These are my favourite pair…..I love the little roses attached on the front of each…..soooo cute.

All aboard footies

IMG_1662

My brother will soon be a new grandpa again to another little baby in April. My brother is a huge railroad and train buff and no grandchild of his would be complete without a set of railroad footies. I made these sweet little booties out of railroad fabric…you can see the little caboose  on the fabric.

IMG_1661

He or she will be the best dressed little engineer on the block.

Let’s play footsies

IMG_1660

With these footies. Adorable little hand made booties out of flannel for a new little baby on the way in April.

IMG_1659

The flannel has little animals on it like elephants and giraffes. I added a matching button to make them super adorable.

It’s baby’s week at my house

IMG_1658

My darling niece Candice is having her first baby in April and the shower is planned for March. I have been on a roll making all these cute baby things for her. The problem was that once I got started I couldn’t stop. It was crazy, it was like I was possessed with babyness.

I started making these little footie booties…so adorable. Cute as a button.  These are made of flannel to keep those cute little tootsies warm and snugly.

Very simple to make, you can find the pattern here…www.poopockets.com/free/footies/footies.htm

These Bloomin Blocks

IMG_1628

I’ve been working on these bloomin blocks for what seems forever. They are fairly simple, along the lines of a log cabin, but there are 39 of them required to complete the quilt.

IMG_1630

I’m getting there and the quilt should be really sweet once completed. I’ve had the pattern in my sights for years and am finally getting around to making it….It should be finished just about the same time the tulips break ground this spring. perfect timing!

Sweethearts

IMG_1633

This Shabby Fabric Valentine Runner class was so fun to teach and finished in the nick of time to get those runners on tables before the 14th!  Roelina, Shelly and Alice did a great job along with Kathy, Diane and Gladys. Aren’t they all so pretty in pink and red.

Flapper Diaper Bag

IMG_1607IMG_1610

In my quest to complete some unfinished projects in 2015, I came across this Benartex Handbag Panel that I had picked up a while ago. And when I say I while ago, I mean it.

It was very cool looking and that’s why it probably caught my eye, but when I started to sew it up I got to thinking if I would really use it.  The more I thought about it and looked at the design, the more it got me to thinking…this would make a really cool couture diaper bag….and I just happen to have a niece who is expecting. Wonders never cease.

As I was finishing the bag up I retrofitted it to the needs of a young mom on the go. It has a place for diaper wipes and cream along with fabric elasticized bands to hold a baby bottle upright.

IMG_1616IMG_1618

I made a matching waterproof change pad and a special holder for the soother so it would never get lost…..been there done that!

IMG_1614IMG_1615

Everything stores nice and compact and it looks fashionable as well as practical.

Holy Giant Oreo Batman!

Dear youngest Son celebrated a milestone birthday recently....21....
a milestone for both of us....his sort of coming of age, although 21 is hardly the norm these days, it's more like 16 or 18. A milestone for me as well as he's the last one, the baby is now a young man. Where did those years go?
We celebrated with an awesome Oreo Cookie cake which was a HUGE hit, pardon the pun. The cake disappeared in a record time frame...next day it was completely devoured.

I liked it as it was super easy peasy to make and looked like I slaved all day. Just this simple two layer pan from Sonoma Williams, a Duncan Hines cake mix and a jar of pre made white icing and voila.

I loved that you didn't actually even have to ice the whole cake, just the middle!
The whole thing is just a bit TOO big to dip though!

Bigs and Littles

IMG_1578
I’m loving these little triangle pouches….so cute and super easy to make. You can find the pattern here.
http://aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2014/12/triangle-pouch/
I started with the smaller one, then just enlarged the measurements to make a larger bag that would hold more stuff!
IMG_1579IMG_1580
I really like the way the strips run one way and then the other. Maybe just my most favourite bag ever.
